Quick Summary: The My Files page is your personal document library within SkillsDB. Upload supporting documents — such as resumes, training records, or certificates — organize them by type, and access them alongside your profile at any time.

Overview

The My Files page gives you a dedicated space to store and manage personal documents within your SkillsDB profile. You can upload files such as resumes, training records, certificates, or any other documentation relevant to your skills and career development. All uploaded files are organized by document type, making them easy to find and reference. The My Files table shows each document’s name, who uploaded it, when it was uploaded, and its assigned document type. All SkillsDB users can access their My Files page and upload, preview, download, and delete their own files. No special permissions are required.

Navigating to My Files

To open your files page Select Files from the left sidebar under the Profile section. The My Files page opens and displays all documents currently associated with your profile. If no files have been uploaded yet, the table appears empty.

Uploading files

Use the Upload Documents dialog to add one or more files to your profile.
  1. Select Files from the left sidebar.
  2. Select Upload File in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. The Upload Documents dialog opens.
Adding files to the dialog You can add files in one of two ways:
  • Click to upload: Select the upload zone to open your file browser, then choose one or more files.
  • Drag and drop: Drag files directly from your computer into the upload zone.
You can add up to 5 files per upload session. As you add files, the dialog lists each one with its filename and file size, along with a counter showing how many you have selected — for example, “Files to upload (3/5)”. To remove a file from the list before uploading, select the X icon next to it.
Note: If you need to upload more than 5 files, complete the current upload first, then open the Upload Documents dialog again to add more.
Assigning a document type Every file requires a document type before it can be uploaded. Document types categorize your files and make them easier to organize and find later.
  1. For each file in the list, select the Document Type dropdown.
  2. Choose the category that best describes the file — for example, Resume, Certificate, or Training Record.
Important: The Document Type field is required for every file in the list. Files cannot be uploaded until all document types are selected. If a type is missing, the dropdown highlights in red to indicate which files still need a selection.
Completing the upload
  1. Once all files have a document type selected, select Upload Files.
  2. A progress indicator appears while the files are being uploaded.
  3. When the upload is complete, the dialog closes and the new files appear in the My Files table.

Previewing a File

To view a file without downloading it to your computer:
  1. Select Files from the left sidebar.
  2. In the My Files table, select the filename.
  3. A preview opens directly within SkillsDB.
File preview is supported for common file types such as PDFs and images. If a file type cannot be previewed in the browser, SkillsDB will prompt you to download the file instead.

Downloading a File

To save a copy of a file to your computer:
  1. Select Files from the left sidebar.
  2. In the My Files table, select the filename.
  3. The file downloads using a secure, time-limited link generated by SkillsDB.

Deleting a File

To permanently remove a file from your profile:
  1. Select Files from the left sidebar.
  2. In the My Files table, locate the file you want to remove.
  3. Select the delete option for that file.
  4. In the confirmation dialog, confirm the deletion.
When you delete a file, it is permanently removed from your profile and cannot be recovered.
Warning: Deleting a file is permanent and cannot be undone. Download any files you may need before deleting them.

Filtering your files

If you have many files uploaded, you can filter the My Files table by document type to find specific documents quickly.
  1. Select the Type filter in the table toolbar.
  2. Choose a document type from the dropdown.
  3. The table updates to show only files matching the selected type.
  4. To clear the filter and view all files, remove the selected type.

Common Questions

SkillsDB accepts the following file types: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .txt, and .csv. Files in any other format will be rejected at the time of selection. If your file is in an unsupported format, convert it to one of the accepted types before uploading.
Each individual file must be 10 MB or smaller. Files that exceed 10 MB are rejected when added to the upload dialog. If your file is too large, try compressing it or splitting the content across smaller files before uploading.
You can add up to 5 files per upload session. There is no documented limit on the total number of files you can store in your profile. To upload more than 5 files, complete the first upload session and then open the Upload Documents dialog again.
No. Files are stored under their original filename and cannot be renamed after upload. If you need a file with a different name, delete the existing file and re-upload it with the correct filename.
No. Document types cannot be changed after a file has been uploaded. If you selected the wrong type, delete the file and re-upload it with the correct document type assigned.
Files you upload are part of your SkillsDB profile. Your manager and account administrators may have visibility into the files stored in your profile.
The Uploaded by column identifies the person who uploaded each file. In some cases, a manager or administrator may upload files on your behalf. This column records the original uploader for every file in your profile, regardless of who the file belongs to.

Troubleshooting

Problem: A file is rejected when I try to add it to the upload dialog. The file type or file size is likely unsupported.
  1. Confirm the file format is one of the accepted types: .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .txt, or .csv.
  2. Confirm the file is 10 MB or smaller.
  3. If the format is unsupported, convert the file to an accepted type and try again.
  4. If the file exceeds 10 MB, compress it or split the content into smaller files and try again.
Problem: The Upload Files button is inactive and the upload will not proceed. At least one file in the upload list is missing a document type.
  1. Check each file in the list for a document type dropdown highlighted in red.
  2. Select a document type for each highlighted file.
  3. Once all files have a document type selected, the Upload Files button becomes active.
Problem: The upload fails after I select Upload Files. A network interruption or temporary server error may have occurred.
  1. Check your internet connection.
  2. Close the Upload Documents dialog.
  3. Reopen the dialog, re-add your files, and try uploading again.
  4. If the problem persists, contact your administrator or reach out to SkillsDB support.
