Learn how to monitor your team’s training activity and approvals, and use the Training Matrix to track skill training dates and coverage across your org.
Quick Summary: The Training section gives managers three views for monitoring team training activity. All Activity shows a combined table of learning plan items and training approval requests. The Training Matrix shows a skill-by-person grid with training dates and statuses. Use both views to track progress, identify gaps, and manage training records directly.
The Training section in the manager view provides two complementary tools for understanding and managing training across your team:
All Activity — a flat table that combines all learning plan activity and training approval requests for your team members. Use this view to see what resources people are working through, monitor the status of training approvals, and identify who has completed or is still working on a specific training item.
Training Matrix — a skill-by-person grid showing training dates and statuses at a glance. Use this view to see coverage across your team, identify expired or expiring training, filter by role or department, and manage individual training records directly from within the grid.
Career Overview — a per-career dashboard for managers that surfaces training progress, expiration warnings, stat cards, progress breakdowns by section and label, a mini training matrix, and an Expert matrix preview. The Career Overview appears for any career that has Training Dates enabled in Career Settings.
Overall Training Status — an all-careers dashboard that aggregates training progress across every career with Training Dates enabled. It surfaces stat tiles (Focus, Training Expirations, People Behind Target, People On Track), a Team Progress list, progress breakdowns, and links to the all-careers Training Matrix by Label and Expert Matrix.
These views complement each other. Use All Activity for a unified feed, the Training Matrix for coverage and gap analysis across skills, the Career Overview for a high-level progress snapshot on a single career, and Overall Training Status for the cross-career picture. Administrators have an additional All scope in the Training Matrix and on Overall Training Status that covers all employees.
To access the Training section select Training from the left sidebar navigation under the Team section. The page opens in the All Activity view by default. To switch to the Training Matrix, select the All Activity breadcrumb at the top of the page and choose Training Matrix from the dropdown. To open the Career Overview for a specific career, navigate to Team > Skills, select the career you manage, and open its overview page. The Career Overview is the default landing view for a career when Training Dates are enabled in Career Settings.
The All Activity view combines two types of training records into a single table:
Learning Plan — items from your team members’ personal learning plans, including resources assigned by you, an administrator, or added by the employee themselves
Training Approval — training requests submitted against specific skills in your team members’ Careers
Both types appear together, giving you a unified view of all active and historical training in one place.Tabs

Status — Filter by one or more status values
Filters can be combined. To clear all active filters, select Reset in the filter bar.Exporting All ActivityTo export the All Activity table to Excel:
Select Export in the top right of the page.
SkillsDB downloads a file named All_Training_Activity_{date}.xlsx containing all rows currently visible in the table, respecting any active filters.
The Training Matrix is a pivot-style grid that displays training dates and statuses for your team’s skills. Each row represents a skill and each column represents a team member. The cell at the intersection of a row and column shows that person’s training record for that skill.Use the Training Matrix to:
See at a glance which team members have training recorded for each skill
Identify expired or expiring training that needs attention
Filter to a specific role, department, or division to focus on a subset of your team
Open and manage individual training records directly from within the grid

Reading the Training Matrix cellsEach cell in the matrix shows one of the following:
Cell content
Meaning
Date + green badge
Training has been recorded and approved for this person and skill
Date + yellow badge (Pending)
A training approval request has been submitted and is awaiting review
Date + red badge
The training approval has been rejected
Expiring Soon badge
The training date is approaching the expiration threshold configured for this skill
Expired badge
The training date has passed the expiration threshold
NA
This skill is not assigned to this person’s Career — no training date can be recorded
— (dash)
The skill is assigned to this person but no training date has been recorded yet
Expiration badges take priority over status badges when both apply. If a training record is both approved and expiring, the cell shows the expiration indicator rather than the green approved badge.
Note: Only skills belonging to a Career with the Training Dates setting enabled will appear in the Training Matrix. If a skill or Career is missing from the matrix, the Training Dates setting may not be enabled for that Career. Contact your administrator to enable it.
Filtering the Training MatrixQuick toggles (available above the matrix):

Managing a training record from the matrixYou can open and manage an individual training record directly from within the Training Matrix without leaving the page.To open a training record:
Select any cell in the matrix for the person and skill you want to manage. NA cells cannot be selected.
A panel opens on the right side of the page showing that person’s training records for the selected skill. From this panel, you can view existing training entries and manage them.Exporting the Training MatrixTo export the Training Matrix to Excel:
Select Export in the top right of the page.
SkillsDB downloads a file named Training_Matrix_{date}.xlsx. The export reflects the current view, including any active filters. Cells are exported as the training date if the record is approved, a dash if the skill is assigned but no date has been recorded, and NA if the skill is not assigned to that person.
The Career Overview is a per-career dashboard for managers that appears when Training Dates are enabled on a career in Career Settings. It gives you a single landing page with everything you need to understand training progress on that career without stitching together multiple reports.Open the Career Overview by navigating to Team > Skills, selecting the career, then opening its overview page. The overview is composed of several sections, each independently useful:
Section
What it shows
Stat Cards
High-level metrics for the career — for example, number of people assigned, percentage of skills approved, number of expired or expiring records
Team Progress Preview
A compact progress bar per team member showing where they stand against the career’s training requirements
Progress by Section
Progress breakdown grouped by the sections defined on the career, so you can see which sections are on track and which lag
Progress by Label
Progress breakdown grouped by skill labels applied on the career, useful for slicing by topic, regulation, or program
Mini Training Matrix
A condensed Training Matrix preview showing training dates for the career’s skills — select View Full Matrix to open the full view
Expert Matrix Preview
A summary of people flagged as Experts (or holders of other skill flags) on the career’s skills
Note: The Career Overview automatically reflects the career’s configuration. Sections, labels, and flag types only appear if the career uses them. Training-related components depend on the Training Dates setting in Career Settings — disable that setting and the overview reverts to the standard career view.
The Overall Training Status dashboard aggregates training progress across every career that has Training Dates enabled, so you can monitor your whole organization’s training in one place instead of opening each career’s overview separately.Open the dashboard by navigating to Team > Skills > Overall Training Status.Scope tabs

Filtering by org structureNext to the scope tabs, the Filter menu lets you narrow the dashboard to specific parts of your organization. You can filter by any org structure attribute: Business Unit, Division, Country, Region, State, City, Site, Building, Department, Team, Shift, and Title.Filters follow these rules:
Selecting multiple values within one attribute matches people who belong to any of the selected values. For example, selecting Site 1 and Site 2 under Site includes people at either site.
Selecting values across different attributes narrows the results further. For example, Department is Engineering combined with Site is Site 1 includes only Engineering people at Site 1.
Filters narrow the people within your selected scope tab. A filter never shows people outside your Direct Reports or My Org scope.
When you apply a filter, every number and section on the dashboard updates — the stat tiles, Team Progress, and the progress breakdowns. The filter also sticks as you navigate: it carries into the Full Report, the Training Matrix by Label, the Expert Matrix, the breakdown pages, and the stat tile dialogs. The selection is stored in the page URL, so refreshing the page or sharing the link preserves the filter. The same org structure filter menu appears inside each stat tile dialog. If you open a tile dialog while a filter is active, an active filter chip (for example, Site is Site 1) appears in the dialog’s filter bar. Removing the chip — from the dialog or from the dashboard — clears the filter everywhere at once, and all tiles and dialogs return to the unfiltered view.
Tip: From the Training Expirations tile dialog, the Open expirations page link carries your active org structure filters into the full Training Expirations page, so the page opens pre-filtered to the same people.
What is the difference between a Learning Plan item and a Training Approval in All Activity?
A Learning Plan item represents a learning resource — such as a course, video, or article — that has been assigned to or added by an employee. A Training Approval is a request to record a training date against a specific skill in an employee’s Career. Both appear together in the All Activity table so you can monitor all training in one place. See Training Approvals for more detail on the approval workflow.
Why do some skills not appear in the Training Matrix?
Only skills that belong to a Career with the Training Dates setting enabled will appear in the Training Matrix. If a skill or Career is missing, the Training Dates setting has not been enabled for that Career. Administrators can enable this setting from the Career management page.
What does NA mean in a Training Matrix cell?
NA means the skill in that row is not assigned to that person’s Career. Training dates in SkillsDB are tied to a person’s Career assignment, so a training date cannot be recorded for a skill that is not part of their role. If this looks incorrect, verify the employee’s Career assignment with your administrator.
Why is an employee not showing up in the Training Matrix?
The Direct Reports tab shows only your immediate direct reports and the My Org tab shows your full reporting organization. If an employee is missing, verify they report to someone within your reporting chain. The All tab (available to administrators) shows all employees regardless of reporting structure.
Can I approve or reject a training request from the All Activity view?
The All Activity view is for monitoring purposes only. To review and action pending training approval requests, use the Training Approvals page accessible from the sidebar. From the Training Matrix, you can also select a person’s cell to open their training record panel and manage entries directly.
How do I record a training date for a team member?
In the Training Matrix, select the cell for the person and skill you want to update. This opens a panel where you can manage their training records for that skill. You can also use the Training Approvals page to approve submitted requests, which records the training date against the relevant skill.
What does the Earliest Training Dates toggle do?
When a person has multiple training records for the same skill, the matrix may display all of them. Enabling the Earliest Training Dates toggle collapses multiple records to show only the earliest date per person per skill, giving you a compact view of when each person first completed training for a given skill.
Does the All Activity export include hidden columns?
Yes. The export includes all columns, including those hidden in the default table view such as Employee ID, Employee Email, Manager Name, and Manager Email. This makes the export useful for cross-referencing with other HR systems.
How do I filter Overall Training Status by department, site, or other org attributes?
Open Team > Skills > Overall Training Status and select the Filter menu next to the scope tabs. Choose an org structure attribute — Business Unit, Division, Country, Region, State, City, Site, Building, Department, Team, Shift, or Title — and select one or more values. The dashboard’s tiles, Team Progress, and breakdowns update immediately, and the filter carries into the dashboard’s sub-pages and stat tile dialogs. To clear a filter, select the ✕ on its active filter chip. Attributes with no values configured for your organization show an empty option list — administrators manage org structure values in company settings.
