Labels

Labels allow SkillsDB Admins to organize related items—like skills, certifications, roles, and learning resources—across the system. Instead of using rigid categories, labels are flexible and user-defined, making it easier to connect related items like “Sales Skills” or “2025 Strategic Focus”.

Creating and Managing Labels

You can create, edit, nest, or delete labels from: My Company > Settings > Labels

Here you can:

  • Create a new label (max 50 characters)

  • Nest labels under categories for better organization

  • Drag & drop labels into or out of nests

  • Delete a label

Deleting a label removes it from all associated records and cannot be undone

Nesting Labels

  • Nesting is purely organizational

  • Selecting a sub-label does not apply the parent label

  • Nested labels appear in a collapsible menu when applying them

Where Can Labels Be Applied?

Admins can create and apply labels to:

  • Skills

  • Roles & Groups

  • Certifications

  • Learning Resources

  • Training

Each item can have multiple labels, and each label can apply to multiple items.

Applying Labels

  1. Navigate to any supported item (skill, resource, role, etc.)

  2. Look for the + (plus) icon where labels can be applied

  3. Select the + icon , this opens the label selection menu

  4. Use the search bar at the top to find an existing label, or scroll through the list

  5. Labels are grouped first by nested labels (if any), then non-nested ones

  6. Select one or more labels to apply (multi-select is supported)

  7. Selected labels will now appear on the item

If the label name is longer than 20 characters it will be shortened with "...". Hover over the label to see the full name as a tooltip.

Applying Labels Across SkillsDB

Only Admins can apply labels. You can apply labels in the following areas:

  • Upskilling Page → Apply to skills and learning resources

  • Library > Skills → Apply to skills

  • Library > Certifications → Apply to certifications

  • Library > Training → Apply to learning resources

  • Library > Roles → Apply to roles

  • Library > Groups → Apply to groups

  • Role/Group Detail Pages → Apply to skills and resources

Label Detail Pages

When a label is selected anywhere in the system, it takes you to a detail page bringing together all the various system items for that label. This is helpful to see all shared items in a single place.

What Labels Don’t Do (Yet)

  • Users can't create or apply labels, only Admins can

  • You can’t favorite a label

  • No charts/visuals for labeled data yet

Tips for Admins

  • Use labels for cross-cutting themes like “Leadership,” “Compliance 2025,” or “Customer Success”

  • Keep label names concise (ideally under 20 characters)

  • Use nesting to keep things organized (e.g. “Sales > B2B” and “Sales > Retail”)

Summary

Labels in SkillsDB let Admins tag and organize skills, roles, certifications, and resources. They can be created, nested, and applied across the platform to group related content. Only Admins can manage labels, and each item can have multiple labels for better organization and filtering.
